Both businesses are owned and operated by the Coxes and specialise exclusively in non-perishable foods made in the Mudgee Region of NSW by some 30 boutique food producers. Several producers compete in Fine Food Awards and many products have been awarded bronze, silver or gold medals. Mudgee Gourmet® recently moved from the town’s oldest house to a country store on the eastern end of Mudgee’s historic railway station (1884). This Victorian building also houses a restaurant, bar and café and a craft co-operative. The first European settlement in the district was in 1822. Mudgee is the second oldest town west of the Great Divide (Blue Mountains) of New South Wales. It is 500 m above sea level and enjoys a continental Mediterranean climate. Today the old pastoral market town is the vibrant centre of Mudgee Wine Region in the Central Ranges Wine Zone. In addition to viticulture, the Region has experienced rapid growth in non-traditional rural industries (such as olives and lavender) and associated boutique value-adding enterprises. A new range of locally made products - table olives, tapenades, extra virgin olive oils, hazelnuts, verjuice and lavender pamper goods - joined traditional gourmet products, like wine-mustards and farm-house jams and pickles. Mudgee Gourmet's tasting table features more than 100 different flavours. Visitors are encouraged to sample products in a relaxed informal setting, accompanied by use tips, recipes and serving suggestions Over the years, the Coxes have developed a knack for suggesting flavours that perfectly match a customer's palate. This product knowledge is incorporated into the offer made by Mudgee Hampers. An unique ordering system allows donors to specify their recipient's preferred flavour style on the hamper order form, and content flavours are picked and packed to provide the closes match.
